Middle Tennesse Hires Derek Mason
On Wednesday, Middle Tennessee State football officially introduced Derek Mason as the newly appointed head coach of the Blue Raiders.
After parting ways with longtime coach Rick Stockstill at the end of the regular season, the Raiders were searching for a successor, marking the first time they were looking for a new coach in nearly two decades.
Rick Stockstill had held the coaching position since 2006, leading the Blue Raiders to 10 bowl games during his tenure.
In a morning announcement on Wednesday, the university revealed that Derek Mason, the former coach of Vanderbilt from 2014 to 2020, would be taking the helm as the head coach.
Mason accrued a 27-55 record, with a 10-46 record in the SEC during his time at Vanderbilt, guiding the team to two bowl games in 2016 and 2018, both of which were losses.
The school announced Wednesday morning that former Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason would take over as head coach.
Following his tenure at Vanderbilt, Mason served as the defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2021 and Oklahoma State in 2022.
In the 2023 season, he took on the role of a color analyst on the SEC Network.
